NSI is a not-for-profit organisation, limited by guarantee. This means we have no shareholders to satisfy, so any income generated is reinvested directly back into the business to enhance our service. Our Management Board include representatives from the insurance industry, the fire and security sector as well as observers from the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) and the Chief Fire Officers' Association (CFOA). ISO 17021:2015 is the standard governing the operation of certification bodies and guarantees impartiality and independence. This is the standard to which we operate as a UKAS accredited Certification body.
All 1800 or so NSI approved companies must comply with the relevant British, European and International standards for technical excellence. For example, they must security screen their employees, provide staff training and supervision to recognised industry levels and hold insurances to protect their customers and employees. For the majority of schemes they must also agree to be audited once every 6 months by fully trained NSI auditors, including random visits to end user sites. Only companies determined to be the best in their class subject themselves to this stringent process.
NSI passionately believes that every customer, whether a large international organisation or an individual worried about rising crime rates, should expect and receive a professional, proficient and competent service from the fire and security industry. NSI approval demonstrates a genuine commitment to quality and the highest standards of service.
