The information below will explain how NSI can help you gain access to British Standards and the options available to you.
Organisations approved for NSI’s Evacuation Alert Systems Gold scheme should comply with the following:
- the requirements of BAFE Scheme SP207 (see ‘BAFE Scheme Document’ opposite)
- BS EN ISO 9001 (together with NSI Quality Schedule EASQS207 – see ‘Quality Schedules’ opposite) and
- hold BS 8629:2019 (Code of practice for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of evacuation alert systems for use by fire and rescue services in buildings containing flats).
Buying Standards
There are a number of ways in which NSI can help you purchase Standards. As an official BSI Distributor, we can offer you the following two options:
1. You can purchase hard copies of any Standard through NSI at a preferential rate (a discount off the retail price for each individual Standard).
2. You can purchase printable pdf versions of any Standard through NSI at a preferential rate. The pdf sales are covered by a single copy licence which means that PDFs cannot be shared amongst your colleagues, but one copy may be printed. The Standard(s) will be emailed to a single address. If you require a Standard for multiple users, the BSI offers a multi user licence and the cost of the licence will be based on the number of sites and users and is therefore bespoke.

NSI’s Standards On-line Subscription Service
As an alternative to purchasing Standards via the above two routes, there is a third option for NSI approved companies and applicants. We can off you NSI’s cost effective Standards Online Subscription Service.
You can take advantage of this service for a nominal annual fee (per individual subscription) of just £167 + VAT which gives access to over 100 Standards relating specifically to NSI approval schemes.
N.B. Standards are viewable online only and only for the individual subscriber, with no option to print (see the Terms and Conditions for more information).

Opening the Standards
The Standards are supplied directly from the BSI in a protected PDF format to safeguard the copyright. Please note – it is only possible to open the Standards through Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Initially, you may wish to try saving the pdf to your local device and then select ‘Open with Adobe Acrobat Reader’ which should enable you to view the Standard.
Alternatively browsers can be configured to open the files. Note – NSI cannot accept responsibility for issues arising from the configuration of your browser.
